Moss & Stem

A note about this little journal

Good company.
Slow growing.

Moss & Stem is a small independent botanical journal for people who enjoy having something green nearby.

There is a particular pleasure in noticing a leaf before it unfurls, or realising that the pot you nearly watered is still heavy from the last drink. Nothing dramatic has happened. You have simply begun to understand a living thing a little better.

That is the spirit of this journal. Not a collection to complete, not a perfect interior to recreate, and not a competition to keep every leaf unmarked. Just a growing set of useful observations about ordinary houseplants.

Look first. Adjust gently.

Our approach starts with the conditions in front of you: the daylight at a window, the moisture below the surface, and the way a plant changes through a season. Care advice is a starting point, not a promise that every home or every pot behaves alike.

We favour clear botanical names, practical explanations, and checking before acting. Plant profiles include pet-safety notes and links to horticultural references consulted. Illustrations celebrate the character of each plant, rather than trying to make every leaf identical.

A small place to begin

You do not need to know much to start paying attention. Choose one familiar plant. Learn its shape, find out what its soil feels like, and watch the light move around it. Give yourself room to get things wrong and change your mind.

Start with the plant journal, or settle into a field note. There is no hurry.
